Top 10 Best SCI-FI TV Shows of all time

10. The X-Files (1993–2018)

  •  IMDb: 8.6
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 89%
  • Episodes: 218

You’ll never find a cleverer, creepier, weirder, and more intelligent series than this one. On top of that, Mulder and Scully have the kind of chemistry you dream about. What I love about this show is that, as bizarre as the supernatural cases are, there’s always such an intelligent and oddly plausible explanation for how the anomaly might actually happen in the real world. You almost have to believe it. Believing is a big thing in this show. It constantly plays on the contrast between Mulder’s belief in the paranormal and Scully’s belief in both science and religion. Besides being intense, weird, and obsessed with the occult, it’s got a lot of heart and soul too. Don’t miss it. It’s one of best sci-fi tv shows of all time.

9.The Expanse (2015–2022)

  •  IMDb: 8.5
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 94%
  • Episodes: 62
top 10 best sci-fi tv shows

This show was an absolute sleeper hit for me, I didn’t see it coming. I stumbled across The Expanse while randomly digging for sci-fi shows, and honestly, I’m so glad I did. Now, I’ll be straight with you: season 1’s acting feels a little stiff at times. But hang in there, it picks up as the cast settles into their roles. Before I knew it, this became one of my all-time favorite sci-fi series. You can tell the early seasons didn’t have a massive budget, but it doesn’t really matter. The story, the world-building, the political layers , it all just pulls you in.

If you’re into gaming, especially Mass Effect, you’ll probably notice a familiar vibe. That’s not a bad thing at all, in fact, it adds to the appeal. The characters grow in real, meaningful ways, and the sci-fi world they live in expands right along with them. This is a proper space epic. One that deserves way more attention than it go.

8.Black Mirror (2015–Present)

  •  IMDb: 8.8
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 83%
  • Episodes: 27

Black Mirror is easily one of the best sci-fi shows on Netflix. What makes it stand out is that every single episode has its own unique storyline and theme. No two episodes are the same, which keeps things fresh and unpredictable. The series dives deep into how rapidly evolving technology might shape or mess with our lives. From smart homes to AI dating, it covers a lot of ground. Each episode runs about 45 to 55 minutes and introduces a new cast, a new story, and a different kind of nightmare.

The storytelling is intense, sometimes unsettling, but always thought-provoking. Now, if you’re not a fan of anthologies, where each episode is standalone hang in there. There are more traditional shows on this list too. But still, Black Mirror is absolutely worth watching. It doesn’t just show the future; it sort of peels back a layer of our present too, in ways that hit uncomfortably close to home.

7. Fringe (2008–2013)

  •  IMDb: 8.4
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 92%
  • Episodes: 100

Fringe is one of the best sci-fi shows of all time. It has great plot lines, character development and progression form episode to episode. The characters are very believable and easy to empathize with. I really appreciate the lack of political or cultural emphasis in this series as well which at the time of it’s being produced was yet to become the plague we are now facing . This series focuses on the idea of parallel universes , mind expansion , etc. done in a way that’s very entertaining and informative. I would have liked it if they’d have made more episodes, that’s for sure.
